Visit the Pine Street Cemetery and Pine Street Colored Cemetery on Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 1:00 PM -- 4:00 PM and explore the history of Gallipolis.
"Living Historians" in period dress will introduce visitors to some well-known and not so well-known citizens of Gallipolis and Gallia County.
"Meet" the following citizens of Gallia County:
Alonzo Green – Civil War soldier and survivor of Andersonville Prison
Samuel Vinton -- Congressman who helped to establish the U.S. Department of the Interior
Elizabeth Cushing Foster – Co-owner of the Our House Tavern
Lucy Cushing – Daughter of Henry Cushing, with his sister he was co-owner of the Our House Tavern
Jeanette Emerson – First chiropodist in Gallia County; opened one of the first beauty salons in the county
Charles Duteil, Marie Boubon Menager, and Charles Creuzet – French 500 settlers
Rev. I. V. Bryant – Inventor; President of the Afro-American League
George Washington Viney – Early African American businessman; deeded land for the building of Paint Creek Baptist Church
Eddie Peppers – Convicted of the 1927 murder of Florence Buck; only person from Gallia County to be executed via the electric chair
Lloyd Gee – Son of John Gee; ran for sheriff; died in the Kanawha steamboat accident
Union and Confederate Civil War soldiers
Frances Angel – Female Civil War soldier
Permelia Atwood – Co-founder of the University of Rio Grande
Lemuel Cadot – Lieutentant-Colonel in the Union Army; served in the 91st Ohio Volunteer Infantry
Edward Deletombe – President of the 1st National Bank; involved in the Gallipolis-Jackson-Chillicothe Railroad and the Gallipolis-McArthur-Columbus Railroad
Bob Evans – Founder of Bob Evans Restaurants
Oscar Eagle – Early Broadway theatrical actor, producer, director
William McDaniel – Son of freed slaves; member of the 5th U.S. Colored troops; distinguished himself at the Battle of Petersburg
Dr. Nelson Sisson – Underground Railroad conductor
Albert A. Stewart – Businessman & entrepreneur; victim of the Titanic disaster
and more distinguished citizens of Gallia County.

Christy Perry Touhey author of “A Place of Rest for Our Gallant Boys: The U.S. Army General Hospital at Gallipolis, Ohio, 1861-1865 will have autographed copies available for sale.
Rich Donahue will demonstrate the proper way to clean a tombstone.
